Clear Bag Policy 2026–2027: NFL, College, Concert & Arena Rules
Stadium Clear Bag Size Limits at a Glance
At NFL stadiums, you can bring one clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" (or a one-gallon clear freezer bag) or one small clutch no larger than 4.5" x 6.5". Most big college football programs, including every SEC school, use the same rule. Arenas and ballparks vary more: many NBA and NHL arenas allow bags up to 14" x 14" x 6" (clear not required), many MLB parks allow clear bags up to 16" x 16" x 8", and some arenas allow only a 4" x 6" clutch.
Always check the venue's own page before you go. Bag rules change by season and by event.

Note: 12" x 6" x 12" and 12" x 12" x 6" describe the same size bag.
NFL Clear Bag Policy
Every NFL stadium allows one clear bag plus one small clutch per person. The league still encourages fans to bring no bag at all.
Allowed
- One clear plastic tote bag, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12". This includes clear backpacks, clear fanny packs and clear cinch bags that fit within those 12" x 6" x 12" dimensions.
- Or one clear one-gallon freezer bag (Ziploc-style) instead.
- Plus one small clutch or purse no larger than 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a strap. It does not need to be clear.
NOT Allowed into stadiums
- Any non-clear bag larger than 4.5" x 6.5"
- Tinted or heavily printed bags you can't see into
- Logo only allowed on one side of the bag
- Briefcases, computer bags, camera or binocular bags, luggage
- Coolers and diaper bags, unless medically necessary
Medical bags are screened at a designated gate. Most NFL stadiums apply the same rule to concerts and other non-football events. Sources: >NFL.com, >New Orleans Saints, >New York Giants FAQ.
College Football Clear Bag Policy
Most major college stadiums copy the NFL rule: a clear bag up to 12" x 6" x 12" plus a small clutch. The SEC has had a league-wide clear bag policy since 2017, and most Big Ten campuses use one too. The Big Ten Championship Game, the College Football Playoff and other conference title games follow the same NFL-style rule.
Smaller programs keep adding policies every year. For example, Troy University started one for all ticketed events on August 1, 2026.
Two things vary by school:
- Clutch size. Some schools allow 4.5" x 6.5", others 4" x 6". A clutch that meets the smaller size works everywhere.
- Other sports. Basketball arenas and baseball fields on the same campus may use different limits.

Concert, Arena and MLB Ballpark Bag Policies
Outside the NFL and college football, the venue sets the rule, so limits range from a 4" x 6" clutch to a 16" x 16" x 8" bag.
- Indoor arenas (NBA, NHL, arena concerts). Many allow any bag up to 14" x 14" x 6" and ban backpacks, such as Chase Center and State Farm Arena. A growing number allow only a small clutch: Capital One Arena allows 5" x 7", and Little Caesars Arena and Ball Arena allow about 4" x 6" x 1.5".
- MLB ballparks. Many allow a bag up to 16" x 16" x 8", and some require it to be clear, such as Nationals Park. Others are stricter: American Family Field allows clear bags only up to 12" x 12" x 6". Wrigley Field does not require clear bags.
- Stadium concerts. These usually follow the stadium's normal rule. A tour can set its own, so check the event page, not just the venue page.
A 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag is the safest choice for most stadiums and ballparks. For strict arenas, carry a small clutch instead.

"TSA-Approved" Clear Bags vs. Stadium Clear Bags
There is no such thing as a "TSA-approved" stadium bag. The TSA's clear bag rule is only about liquids in your airport carry-on, and it is still in effect in 2026-2027.
| TSA (Airports) | Stadiums and Arenas | |
|---|---|---|
| What It Covers | Liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes in a carry-on | The bag you carry into the venue |
| Bag Size | One quart-size clear, resealable bag | Usually up to 12" x 6" x 12" (NFL) |
| Other Limits | Each container 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less, one bag per passenger | One clear bag plus one small clutch |
| Who Sets It | TSA, the same at every U.S. airport | Each league or venue |
A quart-size toiletry bag works for the airport, but it's too small to be a useful stadium bag. A 12" x 6" x 12" stadium tote can still go on a plane as a personal item, but your liquids still need their own quart bag.
Which Stadium-Approved Clear Bag Should You Buy?
Match your bag to your venue's limit. All three Clear Handbags & More stadium totes meet NFL, college football, MLB and most arena limits.
| Stadium Bag | Size | NFL and College | MLB (16" x 16" x 8") | Arenas (14" x 14" x 6") |

| Deluxe Cross-Body Stadium Tote, Royal Blue Trim | 12" x 12" x 6" | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Deluxe Cross-Body Stadium Tote, Red Trim | 12" x 12" x 6" | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Clear Stadium Tote with Water Bottle Pockets | 12" x 12" x 6" | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Clear Bags for Work and Event Staff
Clear bag policies aren't just for fans. Many manufacturing plants, food plants and distribution centers require employees to carry personal items in clear bags so security can check them quickly at entry and exit. Stadium and arena staff often follow the same rule as the fans.
Workplace policies set their own sizes, so ask your HR or security team for the exact limit. Common needs:
- A clear lunch bag or tote big enough for a full shift
- Durable, thicker PVC that holds up to daily use
- The company logo or a color code by department
Our 12" x 12" x 6" stadium-approved clear totes meet most workplace clear bag policies too.
